Telephone Charges

All local calls from your room are charged at local rates plus hotel connection charges. The only numbers that are free to call begin with 0800, 0508, 083210, 0125, 0124, 083033.

All international phone calls will be charged at international rates plus a hotel connection fee.

General Hotel Information

Air Conditioning & Heating

All rooms have an air-conditioner that is designed to either heat or cool your room. Your room will be pre-set for arrival at 21°C. To change the temperature simply press temp button UP or DOWN. Aim the remote at the unit and listen for the beep to confirm changes.

The air-conditioner is sensitive to the doors and will turn off if the patio door is opened — once this door is closed it will automatically start up again after a few seconds. For further settings please dial ‘0’ for reception.

Banks & ATM

A 24 hour BNZ ATM is located 600 metres from the hotel outside the West Coast Wildlife Centre on Cowan Street.

There are no other banking facilities in Franz Josef Glacier, however there are several banks in Hokitika, about 1.5 hours drive from the hotel.

To assist in accommodating incoming guests, check out time is 11:00am. If you wish to extend this time please dial ‘0’ for reception. A half-day or full day charge may be applicable.

Chemist & Pharmacy

For basic toiletry items, including sewing kits, please contact reception by dialling ‘0’. The nearest pharmacy is in Hokitika, which is approximately 1.5 hours drive north of Franz Josef. The local Four Square convenience store has essential toiletry items as well standard pain relief medication like paracetamol.

Credit Card Facilities

Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners and JCB credit cards are accepted throughout the hotel. New Zealand EFTPOS cards are also accepted.

The hotel is unable to accept cheques or give cash out on credit card transactions.

Electricity

The voltage is 240 volts AC 50 Hz. In the event of a power cut, a generator will run the hotel services.

Hairdryers

The hotel has hairdryers located on the shelf below the basin in the bathroom of all the rooms.

Ice

Ice machines are located on the ground and first floor of Kahikatea Block. You will find an ice bucket in your room or dial ‘0’ for reception.

Laundry

The hotel has a self-service guest laundry situated on the ground floor. Please ask at reception for a token and washing powder. Charges may apply. For more information please dial ‘0’ for reception.

Lost Property

If any of your belongings are missing from the room please dial ‘0’ for reception.

Maintenance

We would appreciate you advising the Duty Manager of any maintenance requirements in your room by dialing‘0’.

Pets

Pets are unfortunately not allowed in the hotel rooms or public areas. Exceptions are made for registered Guide Dogs.

Recycling

The hotel has a high standard with regards to environmental issues. We have designed our room waste bins to be user-friendly and we encourage you to dispose of items in their designated waste separator bins.

Restaurant & Bar

For all dining services please dial ‘0’ for reception.

The Canopy Restaurant is open from 7:00am – 10:00am for breakfast (or as by previous arrangement). Dinner is from 6:00pm, with seating’s every half hour – last seating is 7:30pm (bookings essential).

Room Service

Te Waonui Forest Retreat offers a room service option during the winter/spring season on the a la carte dinner service available 1 May until 1 November. $5 fee applies per order.

Safe Facilities

Each hotel room has a safe in the armoire. The door should be open on arrival.

To set the safe hold the door closed, enter a four digit number significant to you and press the # button. The word CLOSED should appear across the door.

To open enter the same four digit number.

If you experience any difficulty with this please dial ‘0’ for the Duty Manager. Please leave the safe door open on departure.

Wake-up calls

Please contact reception by dialling ‘0’ to place your wake up call. You may also make use of your clock radio on the nightstand.
